## CSS Consolidation

### 1. Color Utility Classes (HIGH PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/scss/custom.scss` lines 395-465

**Problem**: Custom color classes duplicate Bootstrap utilities.

| Custom Class | Bootstrap Equivalent | Action |
|--------------|---------------------|--------|
| `.blue` | `.text-info` or `.text-primary` | Replace in HTML |
| `.green` | `.text-success` | Replace in HTML |
| `.red` | `.text-danger` | Replace in HTML |
| `.purple` | `.text-secondary` | Replace in HTML |
| `.dark` | `.text-dark` | Replace in HTML |
| `.bg-green` | `.bg-success` | Replace in HTML |
| `.bg-red` | `.bg-danger` | Replace in HTML |
| `.bg-blue` | `.bg-primary` or `.bg-info` | Replace in HTML |
| `.bg-orange` | `.bg-warning` | Replace in HTML |
| `.border-green` | `.border-success` | Replace in HTML |
| `.border-red` | `.border-danger` | Replace in HTML |

**Migration Steps**:
1. Search HTML files for `.blue`, `.green`, `.red`, etc.
2. Replace with Bootstrap equivalents
3. Remove custom classes from custom.scss
4. For brand-specific colors (`.aero`, `.bg-blue-sky`), keep as custom

**Estimated Savings**: 70 lines of CSS

---

### 2. Hardcoded Colors to CSS Variables (HIGH PRIORITY)

**Location**: Throughout `src/scss/custom.scss`

**Problem**: 396 hardcoded hex colors despite having CSS variables defined.

**Available Variables** (from `_variables.scss`):
```scss
--gt-primary: #1abb9c;
--gt-primary-dark: #26b99a;
--gt-secondary: #2a3f54;
--gt-accent: #3498db;
--gt-success: #1abb9c;
--gt-info: #3498db;
--gt-warning: #f39c12;
--gt-danger: #e74c3c;
--gt-body-bg: #f7f7f7;
--gt-sidebar-bg: #2a3f54;
--gt-border-color: #e6e9ed;
```

**Before**:
```scss
.left_col {
  background: #2a3f54;
}
```

**After**:
```scss
.left_col {
  background: var(--gt-secondary);
}
```

**Migration Steps**:
1. Use find/replace with regex: `#2a3f54` → `var(--gt-secondary)`
2. Run search for each color in the variables file
3. Test each page after replacement

**Common Replacements**:
| Hex Code | CSS Variable |
|----------|--------------|
| `#1abb9c` | `var(--gt-primary)` |
| `#2a3f54` | `var(--gt-secondary)` |
| `#3498db` | `var(--gt-accent)` |
| `#e74c3c` | `var(--gt-danger)` |
| `#f39c12` | `var(--gt-warning)` |
| `#f7f7f7` | `var(--gt-body-bg)` |
| `#e6e9ed` | `var(--gt-border-color)` |
| `#73879c` | `var(--gt-text-primary)` |

---

### 3. Remove !important Overuse (CRITICAL)

**Location**: 278 instances throughout `src/scss/custom.scss`

**Problem**: Excessive `!important` indicates CSS specificity issues.

**High-Impact Areas**:
- Lines 71-85: Logo visibility (6 instances)
- Lines 174-184: Menu headers (9 instances)
- Lines 413-430: Border utilities (all have `!important`)
- Lines 2313-2318: Modal styling (4 instances)

**Strategy**:
1. Identify competing selectors
2. Increase specificity naturally (add parent class)
3. Remove `!important`

**Before**:
```scss
.nav-md .navbar.nav_title a .logo-full {
  display: inline-block !important;
}
.nav-sm .navbar.nav_title a .logo-full {
  display: none !important;
}
```

**After**:
```scss
body.nav-md .navbar.nav_title a .logo-full {
  display: inline-block;
}
body.nav-sm .navbar.nav_title a .logo-full {
  display: none;
}
```

---

### 4. Panel to Card Migration (MEDIUM PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/scss/custom.scss` lines 1408-1489

**Problem**: Custom `.x_panel` duplicates Bootstrap's `.card` component.

**Mapping**:
| Custom Class | Bootstrap Class |
|--------------|-----------------|
| `.x_panel` | `.card` |
| `.x_title` | `.card-header` |
| `.x_content` | `.card-body` |

**Before** (current HTML):
```html
<div class="x_panel">
  <div class="x_title">
    <h2>Title</h2>
    <div class="clearfix"></div>
  </div>
  <div class="x_content">
    Content here
  </div>
</div>
```

**After** (Bootstrap):
```html
<div class="card">
  <div class="card-header">
    <h2 class="card-title mb-0">Title</h2>
  </div>
  <div class="card-body">
    Content here
  </div>
</div>
```

**Transition Strategy**:
1. Keep `.x_panel` classes but make them aliases:
   ```scss
   .x_panel { @extend .card; }
   .x_title { @extend .card-header; }
   .x_content { @extend .card-body; }
   ```
2. Gradually update HTML files
3. Remove aliases once all HTML updated

---

### 5. Float to Flexbox Migration (MEDIUM PRIORITY)

**Location**: 40+ instances in `src/scss/custom.scss`

**Problem**: Float-based layouts are legacy; Bootstrap provides flexbox utilities.

**Before**:
```scss
.profile_pic {
  float: left;
  width: 35%;
}
.profile_info {
  float: left;
  width: 65%;
}
```

**After** (HTML with Bootstrap classes):
```html
<div class="d-flex">
  <div class="profile_pic" style="flex: 0 0 35%;">...</div>
  <div class="profile_info" style="flex: 0 0 65%;">...</div>
</div>
```

Or use Bootstrap grid:
```html
<div class="row">
  <div class="col-4 profile_pic">...</div>
  <div class="col-8 profile_info">...</div>
</div>
```

---

### 6. Form Control Overrides (MEDIUM PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/scss/custom.scss` lines 2723-2792

**Problem**: 70 lines override Bootstrap's form system.

**Bootstrap 5 provides**:
- `.form-control` - styled inputs
- `.form-label` - input labels
- `.invalid-feedback` / `.valid-feedback` - validation messages
- `.is-invalid` / `.is-valid` - validation states
- `.input-group` - input with addons

**Migration**:
1. Remove custom `.form-control` overrides
2. Use Bootstrap's validation classes in JavaScript
3. Keep only brand-specific focus colors:
   ```scss
   .form-control:focus {
     border-color: var(--gt-primary);
     box-shadow: 0 0 0 0.25rem rgba(26, 187, 156, 0.25);
   }
   ```

---

### 7. Button Style Overrides (LOW PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/scss/custom.scss` lines 2947-3025

**Problem**: Custom button colors override Bootstrap's button system.

**Better Approach** - Use Bootstrap SCSS variables:
```scss
// In your SCSS before importing Bootstrap
$primary: #1abb9c;
$success: #26b99a;
$info: #3498db;
$warning: #f39c12;
$danger: #e74c3c;
@import "bootstrap/scss/bootstrap";
```

This way Bootstrap generates all button variants automatically.

---

### 8. Remove Vendor Prefixes (LOW PRIORITY)

**Location**: Throughout `src/scss/custom.scss`

**Problem**: Manual vendor prefixes are unnecessary with modern build tools.

**Before**:
```scss
.x_panel {
  -moz-transition: all 0.3s ease;
  -o-transition: all 0.3s ease;
  -webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease;
  -ms-transition: all 0.3s ease;
  transition: all 0.3s ease;
}
```

**After**:
```scss
.x_panel {
  transition: all 0.3s ease;
}
```

**Setup**: Add Autoprefixer to build:
```bash
npm install -D autoprefixer postcss
```

Add to `vite.config.js`:
```javascript
import autoprefixer from 'autoprefixer';
export default defineConfig({
  css: {
    postcss: {
      plugins: [autoprefixer()]
    }
  }
});
```

## JavaScript Consolidation

### 1. Panel Toolbox → Bootstrap Collapse (HIGH PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/js/init.js` lines 71-119

**Problem**: Custom slideUp/slideDown duplicates Bootstrap Collapse.

**Current Code** (49 lines):
```javascript
function initializePanelToolbox() {
  DOM.selectAll('.collapse-link').forEach(link => {
    DOM.on(link, 'click', function (event) {
      const content = DOM.find(panel, '.x_content');
      if (isCollapsed) {
        DOM.slideDown(content);
      } else {
        DOM.slideUp(content);
      }
    });
  });
}
```

**Bootstrap Replacement** (0 lines of JS):
```html
<!-- Before -->
<a class="collapse-link"><i class="fa fa-chevron-up"></i></a>
<div class="x_content">Content</div>
<!-- After -->
<a class="collapse-link" data-bs-toggle="collapse"
   data-bs-target="#panel-content-1">
  <i class="fa fa-chevron-up"></i>
</a>
<div class="x_content collapse show" id="panel-content-1">
  Content
</div>
```

**Migration Steps**:
1. Add unique IDs to each `.x_content`
2. Add `data-bs-toggle="collapse"` and `data-bs-target` to collapse links
3. Add `collapse show` classes to content divs
4. Remove `initializePanelToolbox()` function
5. Remove `slideUp/slideDown` from DOM utility

---

### 2. Custom Tabs → Bootstrap Tabs (MEDIUM PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/js/init.js` lines 201-233

**Problem**: 32 lines of custom tab switching when Bootstrap provides it.

**Current Code**:
```javascript
DOM.selectAll('.custom-tabs').forEach(tabContainer => {
  const tabButtons = DOM.selectAll('.tab-button', tabContainer);
  tabButtons.forEach(button => {
    DOM.on(button, 'click', function () {
      // Manual show/hide logic
    });
  });
});
```

**Bootstrap Replacement**:
```html
<ul class="nav nav-tabs" role="tablist">
  <li class="nav-item" role="presentation">
    <button class="nav-link active" data-bs-toggle="tab"
            data-bs-target="#tab1" type="button">Tab 1</button>
  </li>
  <li class="nav-item" role="presentation">
    <button class="nav-link" data-bs-toggle="tab"
            data-bs-target="#tab2" type="button">Tab 2</button>
  </li>
</ul>
<div class="tab-content">
  <div class="tab-pane fade show active" id="tab1">Content 1</div>
  <div class="tab-pane fade" id="tab2">Content 2</div>
</div>
```

---

### 3. Remove Custom Animations from DOM Utility (MEDIUM PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/utils/dom.js` lines 152-225

**Problem**: jQuery-like animations can be replaced with CSS/Bootstrap.

**Functions to Remove**:
- `slideDown()` → Use Bootstrap Collapse
- `slideUp()` → Use Bootstrap Collapse
- `slideToggle()` → Use Bootstrap Collapse
- `fadeIn()` → Use CSS: `opacity: 0 → 1` with transition
- `fadeOut()` → Use CSS: `opacity: 1 → 0` with transition

**Replacement CSS**:
```scss
.fade-transition {
  transition: opacity 0.3s ease;
}
.fade-transition.hidden {
  opacity: 0;
  pointer-events: none;
}
```

**Estimated Savings**: 59 lines of JavaScript

---

### 4. Close Panel → Bootstrap Close Button (LOW PRIORITY)

**Location**: `src/modules/ui-components.js` lines 17-35

**Current**:
```javascript
DOM.selectAll('.close-link').forEach(link => {
  DOM.on(link, 'click', function (e) {
    const panel = DOM.closest(link, '.x_panel');
    DOM.fadeOut(panel);
  });
});
```

**Bootstrap Replacement**:
```html
<button type="button" class="btn-close"
        data-bs-dismiss="alert" aria-label="Close"></button>
```

For panels, use a custom dismiss:
```javascript
// Much simpler
document.querySelectorAll('[data-bs-dismiss="panel"]').forEach(btn => {
  btn.addEventListener('click', () => {
    btn.closest('.x_panel').remove();
  });
});
```
